The transporter under the direction of the dispatcher is responsible for transporting patients between departments, specimens and direct patient responsible for transporting patients between departments, specimens and direct patient related items between departments and performing assigned miscellaneous tasks.
*Complies with DRMC policies and procedures, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state or local law and regulations
Transports patients of all ages and or assisting in the transport of patients and direct patient related items for admission, discharge, diagnostic tests, treatment procedures, and department to department transfers via bed, stretchers, wheelchairs, strollers and cribs as ordered by the dispatcher
Assesses patient’s condition to assure that the mode of transportation is suitable, using age appropriate transportation, for the patient and the department
Provides a safe environment for patient while transporting. Assists department personnel with the restraint of uncooperative or debilitated patients as per Medical Center policies to provide safe transport
Properly handles oxygen, chest tubes, IV’s, and urinary catheter by placing at the appropriate levels for flow and safely securing tubes for transport
Obtains portable oxygen tanks for patient transport
Responds to respective overhead CODES.
Collaborate with healthcare providers on conditions & obtain correct transportation.
Provides patient care in ER situations such as CPR until medical personnel arrives.
Reports unsafe or broken equipment to the dispatcher and removes it from service.
Be able to navigate multiple pieces of equipment at one time safely.
Reports immediately any adverse, significant, or questionable changes noted in a patient’s condition to the RN, Supervisor, or other appropriate personnel.
Attends department staff meeting, relevant inservice, and other mandatory functions as directed by the manager or dispatcher
Assists in the department’s Quality Program as assigned
Cross trains to dispatcher functions as requested by the manager
Insures that all equipment is returned to appropriate storage areas.
Appropriate Serialization and Storage of Equipment
Other duties as directed.
