The Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of duties in and around the buildings of the hospital complex, assists in completing tasks, such as repairs and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment.


* Complies with DRMC polices and procedures, with accreditation agency requirements, federal, state, or local law and regulations.

  • Troubleshooting and necessary repairs as well as installation of new service or projects as needed
  • Install and/or repair such items as doors, windows, screens, locks and hardware as needed
  • May assist with any plastering, bricklaying, or concrete work as needed
  • Assists in other areas of the department, such as the energy plant
  • Orders and/or picks up various supplies, parts, and building materials and delivers to appropriate location as required
  • Checks all lighting in and around the hospital buildings on a regular basis
  • Replaces bulbs as needed and/or makes necessary repairs to fixtures and repairs various types of electrical cords as needed
  • Operates and maintains snowplow and snow blower, compact tractor and salt spreaders,  hand and power tools, grounds equipment, etc
  • Completes necessary logs and inspection forms.
  • Makes necessary repairs to equipment throughout the hospital
  • Plunges toilets and drains when necessary
  • Repairs patient electrical and mechanical beds, steam leaks, flushometers, gas and oxygen leaks, fire doors, patient call lights, intercom systems, etc
  • Effects minor compactor repairs and assists in roof repairs
  • Inspects and maintains preheat traps
  • Cleans and rebuilds traps and strainers
  • Services and repairs exhaust fans.
  • Replaces fan belts or adjusts them as necessary.
  • Greases fan motors
  • Solders, brazes, and welds material
  • Cleans and/or changes filters
  • Inspects and safety checks dietary equipment.
  • Checks pump and motor operation in various areas of the hospital complex
  • Checks humidity and draft gauges on air-handling systems, performs filter changes.
  • Turns off systems for energy conservation
  • Replaces fuses, resets circuit breakers
  • Installs sinks, toilets, etc.; replaces toilet seats
  • Measures and replaces broken window glass
  • Replaces floor tiles. Inspects and repairs handrails
  • Performs remodeling of facility as needed and installs new or replacement equipment when acquired
  • Operates and maintains computer for energy management system
  • Carries out functions of our preventative maintenance program
  • Cleans work area and shop area
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • High school diploma or equivalent required with vocational or trade school training preferred.
  • Prior experience of (3) years in commercial/industrial maintenance required.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude and ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to read blueprints, schematics and line drawings
