The Radiological Technologist supports the radiology department by performing diagnostic imaging utilizing several modalities and following ALARA guidelines in protection both patient and operator from excess radiation.

Responsibilities

*Complies with DRMC policies and procedures, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state or local law and regulations

 

Read physician orders to verify examination to be performed

Checks identification of patient by reading wristband or having the patient repeat their name

Communicates with patient to do patient assessment by following guidelines of the department and documents such, including verification and signature of the pregnancy form when applicable

 Processes all types of films using automated processing

 

Ability to operate all imaging equipment including c-arms, portables, and general imaging equipment

Assists radiologist during fluoroscopy and special procedures utilizing equipment, sufficient supplies, imaging, and, when necessary, sterile technique

Transports and positions patients in a safe and timely manner always utilizing good patient care techniques

Demonstrates capability in all aspects of the radiology department such as receptionist, file clerk, and escort duties and performs when time allows and the need arises

Provides radiation protection by utilizing lead aprons, shields, and gloves.  Wears radiation film badge while on duty

Viewing images and using good judgment for diagnostic quality and completeness of exam

Participates in Quality Assurance Programs

 

Cooperates with other Healthcare Team members to provide quality patient care

 

Assists with orientation of new personnel

 

 

General Duties, as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Satisfactory completion of formal radiological technologist training from an approved AMA school required.
  • Must be registered or meet requirements for registry with ARRT and become registered within one year of employment.
  • Healthcare Provider CPR certification within 6 months of start date required
