The Patient Care Tech, under the supervision of professional nursing personnel, assists and provides patient care utilizing standards of care.

Responsibilities

*Complies with PH DuBois policies and procedures,  accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and local law and regulations

*Demonstrates knowledge of age-related needs of the patient, provides patient care based on these needs as evidenced by but not limited to:

  • Obtains vital signs, intake and output, and weights
  • Assists with personal hygiene and positioning of patient
  • Performs procedures (i.e.. application of warm compresses or cold ice packs, simple dressing changes, etc.) under direct supervision of the RN
  • Responds promptly to patient call bells and patient needs
  • Promptly reports changes in patient condition to the RN
  • Checks each patient and repositions, ambulates, and meets patient needs a minimum of every 2 hours and more frequently as needed
  • Maintains cleanliness of patient rooms
  • Maintains cleanliness of and restocks supply areas and utility room

*Participates in the development of new staff as evidenced by but not limited to:

  • Actively participates in the orientation of new staff, including cultural and social integration

*Demonstrates personal accountability as evidenced by but not limited to:

  • Achieves educational credits to meet hospital requirements
  • Participates in the improvement of department through individual or team contributions
  • Conducts self in professional manner in dress, actions, and interpersonal communication
  • Assures environment of safety for patients, significant others, and coworkers
  • Informs Director/Supervisor/Clinical Manager of patient care situations and departmental problems as appropriate
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving skills to meet patient needs and in working with coworkers/Supervisor/Director

*Maintains Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification

 

Qualifications

GENERAL CONSIDERATION AS A PATIENT CARE ASSISTANT (positions may vary)*

  • Customer service attitude required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current Pennslyvania Nursing Assistant Certification OR completion of Nursing Assistant course OR completion of clinical medical assistant program OR completion of one semester of nursing school(RN or LPN program) OR current experience as nursing assistant
  • Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification, required within 6 months of start date
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCM) certification, required within 18 months of start date
